As a functioning visual artist I belong in the world of themes. My visualizations stem from a thematic whole - historical, social, political, theological, as well as epics and subjects from ancient Greek literature such as the tragedies.
Depending on the prevailing temporal stimuli and their devastating realities, I return to these themes with a new perception.
The prevailing realities are determined by the Process, the continual evolution of phenomena, the dynamic succession of situations. The Process is the result of Becoming, a term that expresses the progressive movement. That things become, are created or change.
Armed with creative estrus, this state of mental elation - in other words, his inspiration - the artist must be able to perceive and depict that timeless succession of situations in the prevailing, specific time span.
I define my work as visual expression - as oneiric, symbolic realism.
Obviously there emerges an antithesis as regards the concepts themselves - that of the oneiric and that of realism. The oneiric has to do with our dreams, not our sleep. Realism means the faithful representation of reality. In our waking hours the dream is born of knowledge, ideas, study and an understanding of reality. How we change, beautify, improve what we are living. How we create a superior life. How we turn harsh reality into a happy life. Therefore reality and the dream are interconnected. Symbolism exists as a possibility for abstract reasoning with a condensed substance and a specific image.
Idealism is a philosophical trend that is the opposite of materialism, that considers the mind as the dominant entity. It argues that BEING exists only in the idea we create and that there is no reality independent of thought.
For me the natural reality existed before the evolutionary process of the human being. Before the birth of thought and ideas. In the foreground the human BEING
considered the existing world without understanding it. Tangible reality was something he came to understand through the timeless explosions of thought and ideas in the human brain, observing the goings on, the events, the pre-existing structures of nature. His constant struggle to interpret and to be interpreted, to define himself, led him, through successive conceptions of thoughts and ideas to conquer the intellect, this mental function and become a cerebral-intellectual and an intellectual-thinker.
And since we are on the subject of visual events, it is my belief that all the great discoveries of visual creations as well as those to emerge in the future, are subsets of a holistic whole that constitutes reality. My work was born of these positions. Color, Symbols, Fluid Reality, Creative Estrus.
